Over the weekend of June 9-11, twenty-five girls from Shrewsbury Little League Softball took part in the “Battle in the Borough” tournament held in Westborough.

Shrewsbury’s involvement was organized by Mike Luzzo and Samantha Pegg-Hayes. Two teams from the 8U “Rookie” level were formed. Team One was coached by Mike, assisted by Adam Candela, Ryan Dumont and Dave Fox. Team Two was coached by Samantha, assisted by Rob Augusto, Dave Flanagan, Carter Hastings, John Klimas and Luke Machado. Some of the older girls from our Majors and Seniors divisions helped as well: Ava C, Ava A, Brynn, Clara, Jocelyn, Macey, Ryia and Sara.

Both teams made the semi-finals and one of our teams made the championship. The championship game unfortunately ended in the 3rd inning because of rain and thunder, but the girls played a combined total of 8 games.  Team One lost in the semi-finals to Westborough, and Team Two beat Algonquin 6-5 in a full 6 inning game to move on to the championship to play Westborough. We are very proud of our girls!

Thank you to all the parents who supported the teams with food and shade tents, plus a special shout-out to Stephanie Fox for making goodie bags that were given to each of the girls who participated.
