Opening Day Parade and Festival (4/29)
To kick-off the start of the season, Shrewsbury Little League will be hosting an Opening Day Parade and Festival at Dean Park for all players in baseball and softball on Friday, April 29th.
The Opening Day Parade and Festival will include: the Players Parade, opening day ceremony and ceremonial first pitch, and fun for the whole family — food trucks, games, and a special visit from Jake the Lion of the Worcester Bravehearts! The parade will start promptly at 5:15 p.m.
All players should be in full uniform for the parade and can bring their gloves! Please not bats or cleats.
Planning to attend? Read the instructions below:
PARKING AND DROP OFF: The Players Parade will line-up at the Lower Dean softball field (Dean #2). Parents have two options to get their player to the field. You can either park and walk your child down to the softball field OR there will be a looping line (think looping line at the elementary schools!) at the School Street parking lot where you can drop off first and then park. Please refer to the attached map for parking suggestions. Due to the high number of attendees please be prepared to park by the basketball courts or even up the hill in lot #6. You can park at any lot except for the lot adjacent to the pond, which is part of the parade route, and used for the looping line option.
For those utilizing the drop off option, vehicles must enter by coming down Spring Street and entering via School Street. The police detail will NOT allow you to make a left hand turn from Main St onto School Street. From School St. turn right into the Dean Park School Street Lot.
Both the League and Town strongly encourage carpooling and for those within close vicinity to Dean Park to walk to the event.
ARRIVAL: To help lighten the traffic load, there will be two arrival windows:
1) Softball players in Minors, Majors, and Seniors, please arrive between 4:15 pm – 4:30 pm
Baseball players in AAA and Majors, please arrive between 4:15 pm – 4:30 pm
2) Softball players in TeeBall and Rookie, please arrive between 4:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Baseball players in Single A and AA, and Challengers please arrive between 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm
Players in A, AA, Tee Ball and Rookie must be accompanied by one adult who will help them locate their team. If you have multiple children at different levels you should use the arrival window of the youngest player.
Teams will be organized in sections on the Softball Field. Our coaches and volunteers will ensure your child gets to the correct designated area and be ready to go for the parade! You will be able to find your player at the ceremony happening between all three ball fields.
We are really looking forward to a great night and hope to see everyone there!
